So profound is this loss, that the need for support to help one navigate this journey can be crucial in their healing.

An unexpected turn of events sent our family into a grief spiral -
trying to make sense of things - putting the pieces together was impossible in the beginning. Slowly, with support, we are able to navigate our way through our day without our precious Chloe.
We all experience the following to some degree after losing our pet.
There could be:
Loss of Routine
Loss of Purpose
Loss of Identity
Regret - what I should/could have done
Guilt - I didn't act soon enough
OR Did I choose the right time for euthanasia?
There will be a host of emotions - grief will show up in unexpected ways, and at different times. We are afraid we will forget the precious details of our pet, and getting through that first year experiencing all the "firsts" without them can be heart-wrenching.
It will take time as you get used to your new "normal."
Healing is a process, and it is different for each individual.
I have found journaling to be so cathartic during this time. Recording the events, putting emotions down on paper, planning, noting the special things about your pet can help.
Attending support groups is invaluable - sharing and learning from others is so comforting.

Setting up a memorial, or outdoor garden dedicated to you pet can be ways to help you feel "close" to them. Writing letters to them, and lighting a candle for them each night, or on their anniversary can help us stay connected as well.
Taking your time is crucial - there is NO timetable with the grieving process!
Be kind to yourself!
